  • Hojicha Latte
  • Hojicha Latte

Looking for a comforting, delicious drink without caffeine? A hojicha latte is the perfect choice. This roasted Japanese green tea, with its warm toasted notes, is a wonderful alternative to coffee and can be enjoyed hot or iced. Whether you want a cosy winter drink or a refreshing summer latte, hojicha has a way of winning over tea lovers.

Hojicha, with its beautiful brown colour, develops subtle roasted hazelnut-like flavours thanks to the roasting process. Naturally low in caffeine, it’s especially appreciated by people who are sensitive to caffeine—or anyone looking for a soothing drink at any time of day.

    Prep time:

    5 minutes

    Ingredients:

    • 1 g hojicha powder (around 1 teaspoon for a 250 ml cup)
    • A little hot water (max 70–75°C)
    • Milk of your choice (we recommend oat milk)
    • Optional: 1 tsp sweetener (agave syrup, maple syrup, coconut sugar...)

    Method:

    1. Scoop the hojicha powder and add a small amount of hot water (70–75°C). No whisk is needed—hojicha dissolves very easily.
    2. Add the milk: hot or cold, depending on your preference. For an iced latte version, add a few ice cubes.
    3. Sweeten to taste with agave syrup, maple syrup, or coconut sugar.
    4. For an extra creamy hojicha latte, use a milk frother or handheld whisk to create a lovely foam—especially for the hot version.

    Tip:

Oat milk is our favourite for this recipe. It’s naturally sweet and adds the perfect smoothness to hojicha, without overpowering its toasted notes like stronger milks sometimes can.

    Nutritional benefits:

Hojicha latte is a low-caffeine drink, ideal if you want to reduce your coffee intake. Hojicha also contains antioxidants, can support digestion, and is often enjoyed for its relaxing feel.

    When to drink it?

Hojicha latte is perfect for a cosy afternoon break or in the evening, since it contains very little caffeine. It also pairs beautifully with a dessert or a light snack.

Which diets is it suitable for?

This recipe fits vegan diets when made with plant milk such as oat, soy, or coconut. It’s also ideal for anyone avoiding caffeine or overly stimulating drinks.

    Enjoy!
