Making a matcha tea is a true ritual—where tradition meets wellbeing. Follow these steps to prepare an authentic matcha the Japanese way, with simple techniques that elevate every sip.
Matcha is a finely milled Japanese green tea powder made from tencha leaves. Instead of infusing the leaves and discarding them, you drink the whole leaf—maximising your intake of antioxidants, L-theanine, and catechins. The result is a smooth, velvety drink with a subtle vegetal flavour.

To prepare matcha properly, you’ll need a few essential tools.
The chasen is a fine bamboo whisk used to create light foam. The more prongs it has, the finer the foam tends to be.
The chawan is a wide ceramic bowl—ideal for whisking matcha and helping the temperature stay stable.
The chashaku is a small bamboo scoop designed to dose matcha precisely. Plan for 1 to 2 scoops per cup, depending on how intense you like it.

Place 1 to 2 scoops of matcha into a fine sieve over your chawan to prevent clumps.
Use water at 70–80°C. Avoid boiling water so you don’t “burn” the matcha and lose its natural sweetness.
Add 60–100 ml hot water, then whisk in a “W” motion until a light foam forms.
Drink your matcha in small sips to appreciate its umami notes and silky texture.
Swap water for plant milk for a smooth, creamy matcha latte, lightly sweetened with honey or maple syrup.
Mix matcha with cold water, add ice cubes, and top with a splash of sparkling water for instant refreshment.
Add 1 tsp matcha to a berry smoothie for an antioxidant boost and gentle energy.

Matcha is naturally rich in antioxidants, contains L-theanine to support calm focus, and can help boost concentration. Many people also enjoy it as part of a daily wellbeing routine.
